I have always wanted to write a blog, BUT, what would I write
about. My favorite pastime is watching
and listening to musicals. Any type of
musical, stage, film, concert. All good
to me. So that is where I will
start. With Musicals.
I do love musicals. Why?
It started when I was very young and our
family would all gather in the living room for Sunday night Disney hour. Many
of the Disney shows are musicals and I remember being glued to the television
set in wonderment of the characters who would sing and dance to tell a story.
It didn't matter to me if the characters were people, cartoon characters,
animals or even inanimate objects, as long as they were singing and dancing. I
loved Mary Poppins, Dumbo, The Jungle Book. And every year my absolute favorite
musical would come on TV. The Wizard of Oz!! This was before the time of VCRs
and video cassette tapes that you could own and watch movies whenever you
wanted. We had to wait until they came on TV. We only had two channels (no
cable), and in most cases, movies would only be shown once every couple of
years.
Times are different now. Most people own their own VCR or now it’s a DVD player, and everyone has their own collection of movies. I have a nice collection of musical movies which I add to when I can. I also go to see musical theatre as often as I can. Living in Vancouver gives me many opportunities to see different musicals, from small local theatre companies, to larger traveling companies. My partner, also loves musicals, but is a little more selective with what he chooses to see. In the 13 years we have been together, we have gone to see over 140 musicals, and the number keeps growing. We are going to the theatre tonight and tomorrow afternoon. This blog is going to be an account of the musicals that I see. Any and all types of musicals: theatre, films, concerts.
I am not a critic and will not be in anyway be reviewing any of the musicals I see. I will just report what I saw. I also want to be informative, letting people know what musicals are playing in the city of Vancouver and elsewhere.

Starting tonight, I will blog about “Flora
The Red Menace”, which I am going to see at 8:00pm. I know very little about this musical. The only thing I really know is that Liza
Minnelli was in it on Broadway. Looking
forward to seeing it J
